What is it like to live in Lynn?
Lynn is big, varied, and close to Boston. It has an ocean boulevard along Lynn Shore Drive, Lynn Woods on the other side of the city, a downtown with a growing arts scene, and more single-family sales than any other North Shore town I track.
For first-time buyers and multifamily buyers, it's often the most practical entry point to owning on the North Shore.
What are Lynn's neighborhoods like?
A quick orientation, not a ranking:
What does housing look like in Lynn?
Lynn has a large supply of two- and three-family homes, which is why it's central to owner-occupant and investor strategies. Single-families range from Victorians near the shore to capes and colonials in the outer neighborhoods. Condos include conversions and newer buildings downtown.
How is the commute from Lynn to Boston?
Lynn has MBTA commuter rail service on the Newburyport/Rockport Line into North Station (currently at the Lynn Interim station and River Works), and seasonal ferry service to Boston has operated from Lynn's Blossom Street pier in some years. Check the MBTA's current schedules. By car, Route 1A and Route 107 lead toward Boston.

What should buyers and sellers know about Lynn?
- Lynn is block by block. Prices and rents vary a lot between neighborhoods.
- Older housing means older systems, and lead paint rules matter for rentals when children under six live in a unit.
- Confirm the legal unit count on any multifamily with city records.
- Underwrite rents conservatively. I wrote a full guide to Lynn's 2026 market.
